Help Integrating Wah!Cade, Retroarch, Libretro-bsnes

Postby Wood578Guy » Sun Jan 20, 2013 2:57 pm

I'm building a dedicated emulator HTPC, trying to get the SNES part working.

OS: Lubuntu 12.10
Front End: Wah!Cade
Emulator Front End: RetroArch
Emulator Core: libretro-bsnes (by byuu & themaister)

I have the setup working 99% of the way, on almost every game.

I have all of my ROMs in .smc format, and nearly all of them work except for some of the special chip games (Super Mario RPG, Super Mario Kart, Starfox..etc..). On all but these games, bsnes works just fine loading the smc directly.

The problem is that on these special chip games, bsnes is looking for a folder with program.rom & some other auxiliary files consistent with how bsnes/higan runs when not a libretro core.

However, the Wah!cade setup will only let me define 1 extension (in this case I'm using smc), and also won't allow subfolders in the ROM folder. I've spent about 3 hours trying to fix this and not having any luck. Seems there's a trick I could do with symbolic links in the Linux OS? But I can't get it to work.

The way I did it, was to have my .smc and .sfc files in zip files.

Yea, I tried this, except when RetroArch starts up the emulation core, I just get a black screen. No picture.

To any who care, I actually did get ZIP files working with Retroarch.

You have to call Retroarch-zip, and make sure the first arguement after the call is the filename, else it will fail and tell you it can't find a ZIP.

Perhaps this is obvious to those familiar with Linux...was a new one on me.

Correct:

Code: Select all
Retroarch-zip "path/to/your/game.zip" -L "/usr/local/lib/libretro/emulator-youre-using.so" -c "$HOME/myconfig.cfg"

Incorrect:

Code: Select all
Retroarch-zip -L "/usr/local/lib/libretro/emulator-youre-using.so" -c "$HOME/myconfig.cfg" "path/to/your/game.zip"
