End-User Error Prevention Idea #2

A nice (keyboard based) front end for Arcade / Console game emulators.

End-User Error Prevention Idea #2

I think that Wah!Cade should have a message that appears if they try to run Wah!Cade before running and configuring it via the wahcade-setup. This message should tell users that the Wah!Cade-Setup needs to be run at least once before Wah!Cade will start. If a newbie installs the program and tries to just run Wah!Cade they will see nothing and might think that the program is broken.

I personally think that Wah!Cade should install itself with a default profile even if it is one that the end-user will alter or delete. That once installed the user can just click on the Wah!cade icon and start the program. Yes nothing will be in the list but it won't appear to just not work at all.

Can't decide on this one. I thought about doing this a while ago, but didn't reach a conclusion. Anyone else have an opinion?

I have one.

Instead of warning the user, just look for .wahcade in $HOME and if it exists looking for a wahcade.ini. If one fails just pop-up wahcade-setup window warning that it is the first time and wahcade should be configured to whatever.

This works if its the first time a user installs wahcade and if wahcade don't evolve for a customized location of configuration files otherwise it should prompt the user for previous wahcade.ini.

RomKnight, I think you have the right idea. I just think that an ounce of prevention is well you know the rest. It would make things a bit more simplistic for the new user.
