Mandriva 2010.2 + Wahcade setup

Postby billb » Wed Jul 20, 2011 2:14 pm

(Continued from here since that was going way off-topic)

OK so I have Mandriva 2010.2 (64-bit) installed, probably all of the emulators I need from Zombie's suggested software sources (in this post), and everything seems to working fine so far.

Next step is to install Wahcade and setup the system to automatically login and run Wahcade. We got the 2 joystick / 20 button bundle and USB/PS2 encoder from xgaming.com (also planning on adding a USB trackball later) but haven't set that up yet.

@Zombie would you please share how you've set up your system(s)?

Thanks

By the way, use rpm as much as you can, you will be using the OpenBox Window Manager as your Window manager and launching WahCade on startup. Generally, I have a dummy account called 'arcade' as the account that WahCade uses for this.

I haven't downloaded any additional artwork for WahCade yet, and am mostly focusing on just MAME at this point. Installed WahCade RPM (think it was from PLF repo) but I'm getting an error on startup ... might just be a config thing but I haven't had a chance to play with it much ... will post error message tomorrow when I'm back at the machine.

Make sure you have pygame installed. sdlmame is fine, but xmame I need to help you with.

Odd, I don't remember that happening to me.

Which list generation method do you use for MAME? If I set it to "rom folder" then wahcade runs fine ... I get that error when I specify the location of mameinfo.xml.

The "prototype" cabinet is working great. We have two joysticks with six buttons each, plus a genuine arcade trackball (wired to the circuit board of an old usb mouse).

I get a missing dependency error when trying to install xmame via urpmi -- is that what you meant? Not at the machine now but will post the dependency I'm missing later.

Yes. ARTS was discontinued. So you have to compile Xmame without Arts which requires a patch I have.

A change to Mandriva policy is allowing huge leaps in emulator packaging, pretty soon, it will be even easier to install all this.

I uploaded new backports of xmame, mednafen, and a whole bunch of other stuff. This should be getting WAY easier. Take advantage of it.

Nice -- err, sorry, where?

Finally got everything working pretty much the way I want it with (sdl)mame -- I ended up building 0.139 due to some issues I was having with the RPM installed 0.142 version. I had to clear out my ~/.wahcade/files/mame* and regenerate the mameinfo.xml file before it would generate the gamelist without error. Still no luck with the filters yet.

Enable Main, and Contrib Backports and then run urpmi.update -a. Then follow my recommended emulator list.
