Wah!Ki Updates & Changes

Postby sairuk » Fri Mar 23, 2012 1:10 pm

Wah!Ki has been updated to a newer version of mediawiki. Some special pages may be broken; I am working through extension upgrades in the next few days.

I know some people have expressed interest is having a wahki account. you can now do this by signing up at the site.

User account creation has been switched on, you may sign up and edit content by verifying your email address. I will see how this goes

I so noticed. I think your Famicom edits on the Mednafen page need to go in their own Mednafen-FDS page. I started a Talk page about it if you want to discuss it further there.

Other than that, looks good so far. Have fun!

I'm going to start detailing more nuances to BIOS Setup, particularly with the four Game Boy platforms.

Ref Tags Broken?

Postby codefenix » Fri Mar 23, 2012 8:40 pm

Hey, Sairuk. Do you have references enabled? The tags seem to be broken. Example: http://wahki.mameau.com/index.php?title=Emulator:Mednafen-PC_Engine_CD

Do you think we should go more into hardware compatibility with WahCade?

Feel free, thats what it is there for regardless.

Now for some facts about opening up the wiki.... since allowing user account creation on the site (...email validated) I have had to block 34 spam accounts for the 2(?) legit accounts created thus far. At the same time codefenix and myself have deleted a few spam pages.

So I'm going to turn off user account creation or alternatively add that annoying captcha crap. I'm leaning towards the former myself.

1) Turn off user account creation onsite
2) Add a wiki page about how to get an account
3) Manually create the few accounts I think we will honestly be seeing requested.

I'm all for the freedom of access stallman style so long as I don't have to be policeman because of it.

Thoughts, comments? I'll leave it open for comments for a couple of days then I'll do as listed above.

Craptcha will still let some spammers in, just like they get into this forum from time to time. But it's better than manually creating an account for everyone who may have something legitimate and constructive to contribute.

I vote craptcha.

I also think that there should be greater discussion of Mame Consoles vs. Mame Cabinets. I know that HTPC setups have been discussed, but I think the vernacular should be changed to "Console" since that is what this would be. I consider my setup to be a Gaming console, not an HTPC as it does not record movies, and since WahCade really isn't MythTV or XBMC, stand alone computers that look like "Box connected to TV" should be thought of as "Console".

To that end, I suggest we have a section for:
WahCade Cabinet and how to setup stuff for Mame Cabinets
WahCade Console and how to setup stuff for Mame Consoles

such as, pairing Wiimotes (for Light Guns), using Dance Mats, etc.
