trouble with mame and videoś

Postby General_Faliure » Mon Aug 26, 2013 2:21 pm

Hello.

I am setting up my new(ish) mainboard for my cab, but i am having some troubles.
Mame won't start from Mahcade, (it doe work fine from the command line)
Music video's will only play if i specify the extension in the setup, but then it only uses the first extension (if i specify flv;mp4;mpg it only plays flv)
If i leave the extension field empty it plays nothing at all.
Mplayer works fine if i start the video's manualy.
So far Colecovision (mess), Atari 2600 (stella) and Snes (zsnes) are working fine.
The system is running Lubuntu 13.04, with the latest Mame and Mess and more emulators and the latest Mahcade from launchpad.
I will add my wahcade logs, in one file;
Mame, gets a fatal error.
video, for the videoclips, the first clip works (flv), the second does not (mp4)
coleco, for good measure, that one is working.
I will also add the wahcade, mame, video, and coleco ini's in one file.
My cab is still working fine with the old mainboard, but it is getting a bit slow for the newer games/emulators.

Is this sdlmame? sdlmame is difficult to configure. sdlmame literally relies on the location where the program is launched.

No, it's plain Mame from the repositories, Mame works well from the command line, just not from within Wahcade

Plain mame is SDLMame. It has a very finicky config as it literally cares what it is launched from. I had several example files that detailed the problem.

This is the mame error from the wahcade log file: Fatal error: "unable to open log file (src/emu/machine.c:386)"
Don't know what to make of that.

Wahcade launches your game froom /usr/share/wahcade, a write protected directory. SDLMame will, if it has no configuration file directing it to do otherwise, attempt to create any configuration files it wants in the directory it's currently launched from. This results in an error being thrown. A Config file must be generated in ~/.mame to instruct it to do otherwise.
Code: Select all
#
rompath                   roms
samplepath                samples
artpath                   artwork
ctrlrpath                 ctrlr
inipath                   $HOME/.mame;.;ini
fontpath                  .

#
# CORE OUTPUT DIRECTORY OPTIONS
#
cfg_directory             cfg
nvram_directory           nvram
memcard_directory         memcard
input_directory           inp
state_directory           sta
snapshot_directory        snap
diff_directory            diff
comment_directory         comments

You need to edit this and define all these.

Thanks, this does the trick for mame.
Now for my other problem; file extensions
Wahcade (i use the latest Mahcade from Sairuks website) should work without specifying file extension(s) in "rom extensions"
This doesn't seem to work anymore.
It also doesn't work with multiple extensions.
I have some videoclips in flv, mp4 and mpg format, if i leave the field empty, nothing playes at all, if i specify multiple extensions, like flv;mp4;mpg, it also playes nothing.
If i specify only flv, it will play only the flv's.
I will upload the logs for without extension and multiple extensions.

I noticed the file extension problem the other day when I was doing my PS2 layout. I have been offline (only had a phone) for some time so have not looked at it, or anything else in any detail yet.

Commit 138 is up, to fix the issue for the extension lookup. Added some additional output in the log to tell you what it matches
