Most emulators I've used have worked fine on my "Emulation Station MKII".

Heres a list of what I have working in fullscreen without problems booting from Mahcade.
PCXR (latest 32bit compile).
PCSX2 (works but the openGL plugin is the only problem, not enough people work on it so it's a bit behind DX)
Mupen64plus
Dolphin (latest build), both Wii and Gamecube games work perfectly using their respective settings.
Gens
FCEU (NES)
Mame
Snes9x (works fine for me, prefer GUI to zsnes, zsnes also has 30minute freeze bug.)

So far those are all the emulators I actually want, but I'm sure if I wanted to emulate more consoles I could easily.

There have been many problems settings up a lot of them, but I've worked through them all and fixed them over time. Now they are all stable.

I'm running Lubuntu 14.04 on a Pentium Anniversary with an R7250.

I have a 64 bit build of PCSXR, and PCSX2 is so CPU intensive I'm not going to try. I do need a new Dolphin build however.

NES, and Genesis I use Mednafen for. SNES I use RetroArch.

Yeah PCSX2 can be a bit intense depending on the game, so far I've run SSX tricky and Crash Twinsanity without problems.
It isn't really a Linux problem though.

I like keeping my emulators separate so that's why I use individual software for each console. (excluding dolphin)

I have tried PCSX2 on several systems, but i can never get it to run at good speed, or without graphical errors.

Yeh same experience here, graphics is also game dependant. I have gone back to having my ps2 setup with a network adapter and hdd :)

PCSX2 is not ready for Prime time I agree, but RetroArch brings with it a wide array of possibilities
